Yachts and small boats fill the water in this view of a regatta at Belle Isle Park, the island park in the Detroit River that the city developed as a public recreation ground. The Detroit Boat Club, visible in the background, marks the waterfront as a center of organized boating in the early twentieth century. The picture comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers recorded American cities and scenic places for commercial views and postcards, and this glass negative dates from the years between 1900 and 1915.
