Instead of a stage portrait, this poster shows a bout at the National Sporting Club in London, where Lord Woodstock knocks out his professional opponent. The melodrama *Sporting Life*, by Cecil Raleigh and Seymour Hicks, drew on the public's appetite for prize fighting and the sporting world of the 1890s. The National Sporting Club, founded in 1891, staged its contests under strict rules and drew fashionable spectators, a mix of class and sport the crowd scene suggests. The lithograph was produced by the U.S. Printing Co., Russell-Morgan Print, of Cincinnati and New York.
