This tall black-and-white lithograph advertises *The Sporting Life*, a London melodrama by Cecil Raleigh and Seymour Hicks, and its "The end" caption and listed subjects of homicide point to the play's dark, crime-driven plot. Drury Lane was known for large-scale melodramas of this kind, built on racing, gambling and sensational stage effects, which drew audiences from across Britain and beyond. The poster was printed by the Russell-Morgan firm, which operated in Cincinnati and New York, showing how touring productions and their publicity crossed the Atlantic in 1900.
