This 1887 color lithograph advertises Bolossy Kiralfy's lavish production of *Dolores*, adapted from Victorien Sardou's French play, and its printed caption, "Who is the man that makes the charge," hints at the melodramatic plot. The design was drawn from a sketch by Matt Morgan, a caricaturist and illustrator active in New York, and was printed by the Union Square firm of A.S. Seers. Kiralfy's spectacle productions drew on large casts and elaborate staging, and posters like this one were meant to catch the eye of passersby on busy city streets. The center of this example is missing, so part of the artwork is lost.
