Looking out from Rowe Point, the viewer sees a wide sweep of the canyon's layered walls falling away toward the Colorado River, a vantage that gave early visitors a broad panorama rather than a single close view. The picture dates to about 1902 and comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced hand-colored and tinted views of American scenery and sold them to tourists and railroad travelers during this period. Its catalog-style number and caption card are part of how such views were marketed, and the company's large body of western landscape images now serves as a visual record of how the canyon was presented to the public at the turn of the twentieth century.
