The sitter named in this record is Louis Graveure, a baritone who performed concerts and recitals in the United States in the early twentieth century. The image survives as a glass negative, the fragile medium that Bain News Service, a New York press photo agency, used to supply prints to newspapers and magazines. The record gives no date, and the name comes from caption data the agency wrote itself, which has not been independently verified, so the image is best read as evidence of how a performer was presented to the public in that era. Glass negatives like this one are valued for their sharp detail and for preserving the working output of a commercial studio.
