Raemakers was a Dutch cartoonist whose drawings became well known across the Allied press during World War I, and this glass negative carries his name in the Bain News Service caption information. He was known for sharp caricatures of German leaders, and his work was widely reprinted in American newspapers and exhibited in the United States during the war. The title comes from caption information that was not verified, so the connection between the name and the image should be read with that in mind. The glass negative format points to the years when the Bain agency was photographing news events and public figures for its clients.
