The record lists this picture under the title "War," attributed to Louis Urich, but the Bain News Service recorded that title and attribution without verification, so the name and subject should be read with caution. It survives as a single glass negative no larger than 5 x 7 inches, a format that news photographers and agencies used widely in the early twentieth century. George Grantham Bain founded his New York photo service in 1899 to supply news pictures to newspapers, and its glass negatives document a wide range of current events, from politics and disasters to military subjects.
