The Willard Hotel, a landmark on Pennsylvania Avenue a few blocks from the White House, hosted this October 24, 1924 dinner of the Near East Society, which the record titles the Golden Rule dinner. The Willard was a favored venue for Washington banquets and receptions, and its ballrooms drew political figures, diplomats and civic groups throughout the early twentieth century. The image comes from the National Photo Company, a commercial firm that documented Washington life on glass negatives in the 1910s and 1920s. The glass has some streaks and blemishes from the deterioration of its original coating, which is typical of negatives of this age.
