Few places in Washington were as closely tied to the press and politics as the Willard Hotel, and this glass negative records the American Society of Newspaper Editors meeting there in January 1925. The society, founded in 1922, held its annual gatherings in the capital, drawing editors from across the country to discuss their profession and its dealings with government. The picture comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that documented the city and its visitors in the early twentieth century. As a glass plate, it shows streaks and blemishes from the aging of its original coating, which are part of its physical history.
