The caption spells the city "Pittsburg," the older form that the team used in 1909, when these players posed as National League champions. The date of October 8 falls during the 1909 World Series, which the Pirates played against the Detroit Tigers and lost in seven games. The signature "Rudolph '09" in the lower right corner and the photographer credit to C. Rollins are the main personal marks on the print. Honus Wagner, the club's best-known player, was on that roster.
