The record uses the older spelling "Pittsburg," which the National League club carried in its early decades, and the 1907 date places the picture in a season when the team finished second in the league behind Chicago. The glass negative came from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers and magazines, so it was made for quick publication rather than as a formal portrait. Because researchers at the Society for American Baseball Research later helped establish the title and date, the image is best read as a documentary record of the club in that season.
