This glass negative records three Detroit American League players, Red McKee, Marc Hall, and Carl Zamloch, photographed in Detroit on March 22, 1913, according to the caption card. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century, made the image, and its glass plates were later donated to the Library of Congress. The date falls in the weeks before the regular season opened, a period when teams and photographers often gathered players for portraits and publicity. Because the title was assigned by later researchers, the identification of the players rests on their work, so the pairing of names with faces is worth checking against team records.
