Jean Dubuc, a left-handed pitcher born in Quebec, is the subject here, which sets this portrait apart from the many Detroit player pictures on the board. He pitched for the Detroit Tigers in the American League in the early 1910s, and the 1912 season brought the club its pennant and a loss to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of sports and news, and its large glass negative preserves the sharp detail of the period's studio-style portraits.
