Owen "Donie" Bush was the Detroit Tigers' shortstop around 1910, a fast, patient table-setter who drew walks and stole bases for a club built around Ty Cobb. This glass negative comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with photographs and caption cards, so the portrait reflects the steady press demand for player pictures in the early 1910s. Its date and title rest on later research by the Society for American Baseball Research, which is worth keeping in mind when reading the caption.
