Glacier Point is a granite overlook rising roughly 3,200 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley, and this stereograph captures the view from the rim that made it a favorite stop for early visitors. The card was published in Philadelphia by George W. Griffith around 1902, one of many commercial stereoviews sold in the early 1900s to let armchair travelers feel they stood at the edge of the valley. Such cards were viewed through a hand stereoscope, where the paired images merged into a single three-dimensional scene of cliffs and distance. Glacier Point was reached by a trail and later a road, and its drop-off remains one of the most dramatic vantage points in the park.
