Eagle Point is one of the granite landmarks rising above the floor of Yosemite Valley in Mariposa County, and this 1869 albumen stereo card shows it as travelers of the period would have seen it. It belongs to the Pacific Coast Views series, and its catalog tags also list railroad tunnels, construction, and Donner Lake. Those tags point to the Central Pacific's transcontinental line, which crossed the Sierra Nevada and was completed in 1869, so the card links a famous valley to the railroad that was opening the West. Viewed through a stereoscope, the paired images gave a sense of depth that single prints could not match.
