Glacier Point, the granite overlook rising roughly 3,200 feet above the Valley floor, looks across to South Dome, the sheer rock face that anchors the view from its edge. Views like this one drew early visitors to Yosemite once the Valley became a public reserve in 1864, and Glacier Point later grew into one of the park's most visited vantage points. Notice how the scene reads as a study in scale: the sweep of the Valley floor and the cliffs beyond are set against the smaller figures of the trees and the rock ledges in the foreground.
