This view of a yacht cabin interior is recorded under the title "Suedon" with a [sic] notation, which suggests the catalogers saw a spelling they could not confirm, so the vessel's name may be a misspelling. The 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company sometime between 1904 and 1910, when the firm was producing large numbers of views for travel books, postcards, and promotional catalogs. Interior views like this one, showing paneled woodwork, fittings, and furnishings, were a way to present leisure travel and fine craftsmanship to the public. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
