The steam yacht *Rainbow*, shown at the St. Clair Flats in Michigan, is one of the private pleasure craft that were a familiar sight on the waterways linking Detroit with Lake Huron in the years before World War I. The Flats, a broad marshy delta where the St. Clair River enters Lake St. Clair, was a popular destination for wealthy boat owners and sportsmen from Detroit. The image is a glass dry plate negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its early twentieth-century views of American towns, rivers and resorts.
