Taken from the club grounds, this view looks down the ship canal cut through the St. Clair Flats, the marshy delta where the St. Clair River empties into Lake St. Clair in southeastern Michigan. The record's title spells the place "Ste. Claire," a common variant of the name. The shallow flats made navigation difficult for deep-draft vessels, so engineers dredged channels through them to give lake steamers and freighters a safer route. The record lists the steamboat *Wauketa* among its subjects, which suggests a working vessel on the waterway. The view was one of many the Detroit Publishing Company made of Michigan scenes in the 1910s.
