A steam yacht named Anona, photographed in the St. Clair Flats of Michigan, is the subject of this view, made on an 8 by 10-inch glass dry plate between 1906 and 1915. The flats form a broad marshy delta where the St. Clair River meets Lake St. Clair, and in the early 1900s they attracted Detroit-area owners who kept steam yachts there for summer cruising. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this negative, sold views of American rivers, towns and resorts, so the scene reflects the leisure boating the firm hoped to capture.
