The record gives only the title *Interior of Potsdam* and does not say which room or which Potsdam is shown, so the view could be of the German city near Berlin or of the town in New York state. The 8 by 10 inch glass negative dates from roughly 1900 to 1910, when large-format plates recorded fine detail in indoor settings. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued the view under catalog number 042507, sold many such images as travel views and postcards. The plate reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
