The yacht *Wasp* was photographed on July 25, 1896, most likely at the Larchmont Yacht Club on Long Island Sound, though that attribution rests on the style of the title and numbering rather than a confirmed caption. Yacht racing drew crowds of well-to-do spectators to the Sound's shoreline clubs in the 1890s, when regattas were a major summer social event. The negative bears no Detroit Publishing Company number, so its place in that firm's holdings is also a stylistic judgment. It came to the collection as a 1949 gift to the State Historical Society of Colorado.
