*Vorant II* was a racing yacht, and this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, dated June 30, 1896, probably records a regatta of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club on Long Island Sound. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its broad catalog of American views, is credited with the image, though the attribution rests on the style of the title and numbering rather than a catalog number. The negative reached the Library of Congress through a 1949 gift to the State Historical Society of Colorado. Sailing races of the 1890s drew crowds and photographers, making such plates valuable records of yacht design.
