Valkyrie II was a British racing yacht designed by George Lennox Watson and launched in 1893 for the Earl of Dunraven's challenge for the America's Cup. The notes on this glass negative tentatively link it to those races, based on the style of the title and numbering. That season's Cup contests drew large crowds and heavy newspaper coverage, and Valkyrie II lost to the American defender Columbia. Views of such yachts show the tall sail plans and long, heavy hulls that defined late nineteenth-century cup racing.
