Unlike many cards on this board, this one comes from the Contentnea Photo Series, cataloged as T209 by collectors and issued by the American Tobacco Company in 1910. Cigarette makers of that era tucked small cards into their packs to encourage repeat purchases, and this series is a good example of the photographic style the company used. The image is a halftone, a process that breaks a photograph into a pattern of tiny dots so it could be printed cheaply in large runs. The card later entered the Library of Congress as part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards.
