The aircraft in this glass negative carries the name *Spirit of St. Louis*, a title the Library's staff assigned when cataloging it. That name belongs to the Ryan monoplane Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic in May 1927, a plane financed by St. Louis backers and named for their city. The negative is dated only to between 1909 and 1940, and its surface shows streaks and blemishes from the slow decay of the original coatings on the glass.
