The title, "Voigt, St. Louis, 1924," is the only identifying detail, and the National Photo Company recorded it from unverified data, so the surname may refer to a person, a business, or a place. The image survives as a glass negative, a format that was standard for commercial photographers of the period and that offered fine detail on a plate of about 4 by 5 inches or smaller. Its coating has begun to deteriorate, leaving streaks and blemishes that show in the plate. The Library of Congress received it as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947 and keeps it with the company's wider St. Louis holdings.
