The title on this glass negative, "Davis, St. Louis," names only a surname and a city, and the record notes that even this label was supplied by the National Photo Company and has not been verified, so the exact subject is open to question. The company produced large numbers of city and town views in the early twentieth century, many of them for commercial and travel markets, and this 1924 negative belongs to that body of work. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947. Visible streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings, a common condition in glass plates of this age.
