Taken on May 6, 1929, this glass negative pairs President Herbert Hoover with the Retail Jewelers Association, about two months after his inauguration in March. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that documented official events, made the exposure, and the Library of Congress received the plate as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which the record attributes to natural deterioration of the original coatings.
