Fifteen men in formal business dress stand together in this 1909 group portrait of officers of the Fruit Dispatch Company of New York, a firm connected with the United Fruit Company. The United Fruit Company was formed in 1899 and grew into one of the largest importers of bananas to the United States, shipping fruit from plantations across Central America and the Caribbean to American markets. Company photographs like this one recorded the executives who ran its New York operations during the early growth of the banana trade. The 1948 printing was made from the company's own negative collection.
