*Cinderella*, a chromolithograph issued by the W.B. Conkey Company of Chicago and New York around 1897, shows the Perrault fairy tale in the bright, layered color that made the process popular in the late nineteenth century. Conkey was a publisher of illustrated books, and its colorful juvenile material reached families well beyond the big cities. Chromolithography built each hue from a separate printing plate, so a single picture required several precisely aligned impressions. The copyright notice dates the print to a period when American publishers were expanding their children's literature.
