Printed under the spelling "Geezeh," this view of the pyramids comes from the second volume of *Egypt and Nubia*, the large lithographic series that David Roberts based on sketches he made on the spot during his travels in 1838 and 1839. Louis Haghe turned Roberts's drawings into color lithographs, and F.G. Moon issued the plates in London in parts between 1846 and 1849. For British readers who would never see Egypt themselves, the series offered a close look at monuments that had long fascinated European travelers.
