Medinet Habu, the mortuary temple complex of Ramesses III on the west bank of the Nile at Thebes, is the subject here, drawn by David Roberts on December 8, 1838, during his tour of Egypt. Roberts sketched the monuments on the spot, and this color lithograph was prepared by Louis Haghe for the two-volume *Egypt and Nubia*, published in London by F. G. Moon between 1846 and 1849. The set made Roberts's travel drawings widely available to British readers, and his careful views of temple walls and colossal ruins helped shape Victorian ideas of ancient Egypt.
