The Flatiron's wedge-shaped footprint at Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street gave the building its nickname, and this halftone reproduces a postcard view of it. The picture appeared in the February 1912 issue of the *Ladies Home Journal*, a sign of how widely the building's image circulated by then. Designed by Daniel Burnham and completed in 1902, the steel-framed tower was among the city's tallest structures when it opened. Printed by halftone, the view shows how magazines and postcards turned such landmarks into everyday images.
