Fifth Avenue at 50th Street is the setting for this 1910 view of St. Patrick's Cathedral, with its pointed Gothic towers rising above the street. Designed by James Renwick Jr., the white marble church was completed in the late 1870s and had become one of the city's best-known landmarks by the time this photograph was taken. Irving Underhill, a New York photographer, made the picture, and its copyright registration shows it was issued as a commercial view. The catalog card is unverified, so the exact vantage point and circumstances are not recorded.
