The Ritz Tower stood at the corner of Park Avenue and 57th Street, a 1920s hotel and apartment tower designed to signal the confidence of the city's boom years. Completed in 1925, it was among the tallest residential buildings of its era, and its Art Deco-leaning profile was a striking addition to Midtown. Irving Underhill's photograph, copyrighted and catalogued around 1926, captures it shortly after it opened, when the district was still rapidly reshaping itself around new skyscrapers and luxury hotels.
