The Federal theater Project poster for Sidney Howard's play *Alien Corn* advertises a California staging of the work in 1938, the year before Howard died. Howard, a playwright and screenwriter, wrote the drama about a young American who finds himself at odds with the expectations of his family and home town. The Works Progress Administration's Federal theater Project, created in 1935, put unemployed actors, designers and stagehands to work producing plays across the country, often for low ticket prices. Its posters, like this silkscreen print, were made by artists working under the program and are now valued as a record of both American theater and New Deal graphic design.
