A steamship and a field of grain share this 1938 silkscreen poster for *Alien Corn*, a play by Sidney Howard about an American pianist who travels to Europe to study music. The title comes from Keats's "Ode to a Nightingale," where Ruth stands homesick amid the alien corn. The poster was produced under the Federal theater Project, the New Deal program of the Works Progress Administration that employed theater workers and staged productions across the country, including in California.
