This silkscreen poster advertises a Los Angeles production of Susan Glaspell's play *Alison's House*, staged under the Federal theater Project, a New Deal program that put unemployed theater workers back on stage during the Depression. The poster is dated 1936, and a later date, 4/19/38, is handwritten on its back. Glaspell's play, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1931, follows a family sorting through the private poems of a dead woman, Alison Stanhope, who is loosely modeled on Emily Dickinson. The poster's wording, "Alisons house," drops the apostrophe, as many printed notices of the period did.
