A writing inkstand takes center stage in this 1938 silkscreen poster, which the record ties to a California staging of Susan Glaspell's *Alison's House*, subtitled "a poetic romance." Glaspell, who also helped found the Provincetown Players, drew the play loosely from the life of Emily Dickinson, and it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1931. The Federal theater Project, a Works Progress Administration program, sponsored this production and its publicity during the Depression, when federal support kept theater companies working across the country.
