This silkscreen poster advertises a Federal theater Project production of Susan Glaspell's *Alison's House*, a "poetic romance," and its catalog subjects list an ink stand, a detail that points to the play's central object. Glaspell wrote the play in 1930, drawing loosely on the life of Emily Dickinson, and it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1931. The Federal theater Project, a New Deal program run under the Works Progress Administration, staffed theaters across the country during the 1930s, and posters like this one, made by its artists, were used to draw audiences to productions of new and classic plays.
