A full-length daguerreotype is less common than the head-and-shoulders portraits of the period. This one shows a woman in costume, with a lace apron and a bouquet, turned three-quarters to the right. The plate is gold toned and bears the name "Mad. Laborde" scratched into its surface, which the Library of Congress links to Rosalie Henriette Bediez Laborde, born 1824. That identification rests on a woodcut published in *Ballou's Pictorial* in June 1859, and other possible sitters are also listed, so the name is best read as a working attribution. The plate was made in Mathew Brady's studio and reached the Library through the U.S. War College in 1920.
