Few theater posters of the period tie so closely to the newsroom as this silkscreen, sponsored by the Newspaper Guild of New York and issued under the Federal theater Project. Its Living Newspaper units dramatized current events using headlines, wire stories and interviews, and the Guild's backing reflected reporters' stake in that approach. Launched in 1935 under the Works Progress Administration, the Project employed actors, designers and writers during the Depression. The print is dated 1936, with a 1937 date stamped on the back.
