The engraving is titled "Boston Favorite," and its imprint gives the maker as M. Pierce at Nos. 115 and 117 Hanover Street in Boston, dated 1866. Hanover Street was a busy commercial thoroughfare in the city's center, where shops and manufacturers sold goods directly to local buyers. The catalog notes tie the sheet to tobacco advertising and credit the engraving to Kilburn and Mallory, but both attributions are unconfirmed. Printed advertising like this was a common way for mid-nineteenth-century businesses to make a name recognizable to customers.
