Four Boston congregations share this single engraved sheet, with the Brattle Street church on Brattle Square given first place among them. The plate pairs that older Congregational meetinghouse with the Catholic church, the Bowdoin Street church, and the Central Universalist church, a mix that shows how many worship traditions had taken root in the city by about 1830. The engraving appeared as an illustration in Bowen's *Picture of Boston*, one of the guidebooks that helped visitors and residents see the town's streets and public buildings. Viewed side by side, the four buildings offer a quick record of the varied religious life of the period.
