Four churches share this sheet: the New North Church, the First Methodist, Quincy Temple, and the First Baptist Church in Chelsea, just across the harbor from Boston. The New North congregation traces its roots to the seventeenth-century North End, which makes it the most historically rooted of the group. The engraving dates from around 1830 and appeared as an illustration in Bowen's *Picture of Boston*, a guidebook that helped readers see the city's religious landmarks in one place. Grouping several churches on a single sheet was a common way to show the variety of worship in a growing port.
