This view pairs a mountain hut with Lünersee, a high glacial lake in the Rätikon range of Vorarlberg, the westernmost state of Austria. The record places it under the Tyrol heading, though the hut and lake lie in Vorarlberg. The photochrom process, developed in Zurich, printed sharp, saturated color from a photographic negative, and Detroit Publishing Co. sold these views in the United States. Their catalog made Alpine scenery of the Habsburg lands available to American buyers in the years around 1900, when mountain hiking and hut-based tourism were growing across the Alps.
