Few villages in the Dolomites have a longer tourist history than San Martino di Castrozza, shown here under the spelling "St. Martino di Castrossa." In the 1890s the village lay in the Tyrol, then part of Austria-Hungary, and it is now in Italian Trentino. The photochrom process used for this print was a color lithographic method, developed in Switzerland, that reproduced photographs in soft, painterly hues. The Detroit Publishing Co. issued it in its 1905 catalog of Austro-Hungarian views, where it is numbered 9355.
